Don Facundo Bacardí Massó (Catalan: Facund Bacardí i Massó) (1814 – May 9, 1886) was a Spanish–Cuban rum businessman. He was the founder and eponym of Bacardi rum distillery in 1862.
Bacardí was born in Sitges (province of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain), son of a family of bricklayers. He settled in Cuba in 1830 and business was only in the talks. Don Facundo than attempted to "tame" rum. After struggles of experiments with several techniques he came upon filtering the rum through charcoal, which removed impurities as well as aging the rum in oak barrels, which had the effect of "mellowing" the drink.-My favorite Bacardi commercials-
